

Tyrael has a soft spot for humans, being the Archangel of Justice, but in some ways it can be argued that his meddling was what prevented the Archangels from being able to put a stop to the Prime Evils right off the bat and therefore cascading the whole series of events that led the Nephalem to have to be the ones to save Sanctuary and restore order. Some of the council are pretty high and mighty cough Imperius cough but from their perspective humanity is just an unfortunate species caught in the middle of the battle between the heavens and agents of hell, and actually a liability with how they can be manipulated to act as servants of evil. They are less like angels in the common sense, being servants of god and his creations, but rather like guardians of the realms in their entirety. The preservation of humanity is not the ultimate goal and not really what they are tasked with concerning themselves about. He will more likely be a balancing act in the story, maybe even a voice of reason, rather than taking sides as he once did. But as the mortal truly caught between Heaven and Hell, Tyrael sits in a position unlike any other in all of Diablo lore.

It seems unlikely that Blizzard plans to make Angels and Demons into classes, as the franchise centers those caught between their way. This type of mechanic could easily follow on the multi-tree advancement already announced for the series.


Given each installment so far has offered something new, perhaps Tyrael will become a hand in the battle, balancing the sides by offering players the ability to take on angelic or demonic powers in exchange for duties to Sanctuary. Five playable Diablo classes have been announced so far, and they all represent takes on options from earlier games.
